Drama of ANY kind makes ME…dramatic. And not in an impressive way.

Recent drama sightings from my window are: woman at the grocery store (not me!) can’t decide which kind of canned goods to buy. Indecision not based on price, but appearance. One can “just looked better.” I wanted to remind her she was eating what was on the inside and not the out. Just how many times can you ask your husband “which one?” Just buy the can, please!

Child begging uncontrollably for a bag of cookies in a store; yelling didn’t help, so the little girl turned to her rag-doll phase. Becoming totally lifeless as she lay on the store floor; repeating out loud, over and over, “I want it mommy…I want it Mommy.” I thought let me help you little girl, “STOP IT!”

Cars near my office making doughnuts in the middle of the street. Why move to the curb, no one really wants to go down this street but you, right? “Who, us?” We are just people in cars; we’re here to watch your show!

I wonder what would happen if all of us just “got a grip” and decided for one whole day none of us would live in drama for even a second, nor tolerate it around us.

Imagine, finally getting to see all the things we’ve been missing. Seeing more important issues because the clouds of distraction have dissipated; giving way to the full view.

Being the people that we need to be for God is going to require us to put the brakes on all the squealing of our tires, and turn down our road going straight. All the noise from the screeching may give the impression we are more than we are; but once the smoke clears, what remains?

God needs to close down a number of peoples productions. I could use less curtain calls myself. I have no time for a date with drama; my calendar is full and I am not accepting any new engagements.

To the doughnut people, I would like you to know they are for eating! As entertaining and humorous as it might be, life continues to go by in the fast lane whether your car is driving straight or not. I wouldn’t want anyone to miss life while they are debating how many circles they can make before someone calls the police. By the way, it’s five.

Copyright © 2009 A. The Bible states “…it’s the power of God unto salvation.”

If we are willing to set the captives free through the sharing of the gospel, I hope our faith in Him can lead us to action in reaching those who may never have either crossed our path, or our minds.

Years ago I started talking about the topic of human trafficking. People being forced to not only work long hours in indentured service and forced labor, but men, women and children forced into lives of prostitution.

Many people did not only question what I was saying, they “couldn’t believe that it was happening.” It may be hard for us to get our minds around anyone being forced into prostitution and the sex industry, but it is happening all over the world everyday.

Blaming others for their lifestyle, or punishing them for not being like us or acting as we think they should was not the motto of our Lord Jesus Christ and His message of redemption. And that kind of attitude will not go far if it’s our intention to reach people with that message.

The Bible says “Let those who are free be free indeed.” It’s hard to escape when you’re not the only one holding yourself back. The invisible hands that keep many in bondage have a face and a name even though we can’t see them. It’s this dilemma that is going to have to send us to our knees in prayer for wisdom and help—from a God who has the power to break chains and bring justice. A God whose invisible hands bring visible results, working through His people who are willing to live and pray by faith, and act out the mandate He gave to us all “Go into all the world…”

Human trafficking IS modern day slavery! Let’s make this a household phrase, like “go green” and “recycle,” and let’s make sure people know who we are about, God, and what
we are about, Him, and His message of hope for all people; regardless of circumstance.

© A. With life being so hectic, it is easy for us to think that God is too occupied to be concerned with “What is going on in our lives.” Since He is the One who created all life, I know He is interested in keeping track of all that He is responsible for. His arms are never too short to reach us, and His power never to ineffective or weak to help; and at times to deliver us from any situation.

Through the adversity of war, economic hardship and the calamity of senseless violence; prompted by hatred and sin that pounds the airwaves and floods our brains with doubts and fears—and sometimes anger, God remains. “The rock on which we cling to and the support that keeps us upright.”

We are on His list, is He on ours? Let’s not just make time for God when “tragedy and misfortune visit us.” Let’s visit with Him daily. We can tell Him what we are thinking and He will let us know what He thinks. We will tell Him what’s on our mind and He will show us what is on His. For sure what is on His mind is—loving us. Challenging us to change, all the while loving us to Him.

Is God listening? Yes! Are we?

© A. Supplies are short, but our optimism and faith must rise. Not in the assurance of the up and down arrows of the market, but in God, a real God. Many have claimed to be as great as Him but they’re all still dead, while Jesus, His Son, died and rose again.

Our faith in God can never be in short supply. Our faith to know He can rescue us in spite of the circumstances and bring about prosperity in the leanest times.

It could be a year of lack for many. But for those willing to let God take out the doubt in their lives that chokes out faith—expect Him to bring “something out of nothing.” More so, I should say, He will bring something through what His Son already did on the cross for us, and that was to die for our sins.

God’s a gardener. He can remove the weeds of doubt in our lives—while growing a garden that’s lush and viable in spite of a lack of materials, or ideal conditions. Surprising the harshest critic whose own faith leads them not in praise and thanksgiving to a mighty God who can bring provision from lack; but whose own lack of faith leads them further into doubt, and a cycle of spiritual poverty.

Let’s not keep company even one day with suspicion and fear, but live free when we place our concerns in the care of our Father, in whom we trust…there is no other.

© 2008/2009 A. When something doesn’t seem right to me, I have to say something. Ok, I don’t have to, but I do!

I saw a print ad recently by a woman who I am not really sure what she did, but you have to give her credit for advertising with such confidence. Blazing boldly at the top of her ad was written: “Minister of Integrative Healing.” Ok, if you have to use a dictionary to figure it out you need to re-write the ad.

What is this?! Does anyone really know? Is the secret of her success in the “mystery” of what she does? I don’t think I want to know. To me, it sounds like she’s going to mess with my mind. I have enough challenges there, “thank you, hands off!” I’m sure people who are into this knew exactly what she was talking about.

Amid all these days of confusion and complication what we really need is some plain old common sense, delivered in simplicity. That’s a good time for us to consider the gospel of Jesus Christ; the Son of God, who died on the cross for our sins.

The simple-ness in understanding His message should not confuse us with the seriousness of His actions for us. It wasn’t easy for Him to die in our place; it was something He knew He must do to fulfill the will of the Father, God.

The gospel is not hard for us to understand, or why Jesus did what He did. Let’s reflect on His actions, apply our faith and belief in what He did; asking Him to save us—to be our Savior.

I’m writing my own ad for Jesus:

Jesus, Over Comer Of Death And Sin; Administrator Of New Starts.
Always available to talk to, just do it—He’ll be there.

© 2009 A. Some have numerous options about where that will be; sadly…others will have little or none.

Numerous people around the world not only have little or no food to eat, they have no place to call home.

Needs don’t take a holiday. Either does God, I am glad to say! Let’s reach out to those who have little to eat and no place to stay—all year long. And let’s remember those who when they leave this earth have nothing to go home to.

Christians have something, someone to go home to. Jesus, God’s Son, secured not only a place for us to go when we are no longer here through His death on the cross; He also secured for us a space in that home when we choose to accept Him as Savior.

Salvation is the free gift of eternal life. It’s a gift that is give-able at all times, and its rewards keep giving long after it has been redeemed.

It’s easy for us to picture the comfort of a physical home. It’s not as easy for us to understand the comfort and peace a spiritual home can bring. But God not only provides us a place of spiritual rest, He Himself is that place of spiritual rest.

How about you? Do you need a place to rest? Jesus is a place of refuge, someone to go home to.

© A. The meltdown in almost every sector in our society is a good reminder “it’s in God we should trust.”

Many people are optimistic of a bounce back, trying a number of “proven tactics” they say will not only shore up our sagging economy, but quell fears of an impending economic depression of global proportions.

You can’t work your way back up to the surface until you stop falling, and at times, hit bottom; to say we have reached that might be premature.

Whatever the future holds we must give into God, and not into fear. Our fears don’t always become realized, but the hope that Jesus, God’s Son provides for us was realized when He died on the cross for our sins.

We never have to fear the future when we know who is holding it, and we know beyond all doubt it has been secured. They seemed “floored” that someone they didn’t know would stop and help them.

I appreciated their thankfulness, but I wondered how far our society hasn’t come in not only looking out for each other, but stopping to help strangers.

Could it be we have gotten to the point where stopping to help someone we don’t know is not only “too much trouble,” it’s not even a thought?

Jesus, God’s Son stopped to help us with His death on cross for our sins. He knew us because His Father, God, knows us and made us. The evolutionists out there just fainted. By the way, I was created not hatched!

Regardless of whether we know God’s Son as Savior; it doesn’t change what He did for us even though we may not have asked Him. Now think of how ready He is to be your Savior when you do.

God, I remember your kindness to us even when we don’t ask. To say it’s changing for the better, in my opinion, would not be true. If anything, I think the world is slowly slipping into lawlessness.

With almost every area of our lives affected, I was wondering why someone “doesn’t do something,” and just “how bad it’s going to get?”

I am not seeing a lot of strong leadership out there in any sector. Sadly, it doesn’t seem like many churches and Christian leaders are sounding off and standing up, either.

A change can start with one. The One I spend time talking about the most in my articles is Jesus, the Son of God. Now, more than ever, I hope you will consider accepting Him as your Savior.

Jesus has a way of settling our debts, saving our lives, and securing our eternity. He can also provide protection from approaching disturbances, comfort and peace in their midst. No matter what is going on around us, He is the steady in any storm; whether we are “in it now” or it’s “about to hit. “

The winds of change are here. I am not sure we’re going to like what they have brought. If we can’t get a handle on all this disruption, there might be widespread destruction.

I am not counting on the world’s economy, but on a God, our God. One who has proven no matter what happens; He is there to see us through. Waiting to see how He can help—with what we need.

© 2008 A. Many people don’t even know why Easter is celebrated.

The advertising must be working. The commercials and print ads that tell us we have to buy something new for the holiday; but they don’t tell you what the holiday is about, and who we are throwing the celebration for.

Don’t be misled. Jesus is the hero of Easter. “The bunny” no matter how cute, isn’t even in the real picture. Easter is not his birthday, and not the mere celebration of spring.

We need to get our minds around the real meaning of Easter. Not the man made tale whose purpose is to “humanize the holiday.” Easter is all about the divine. The person of Jesus, God’s Son, who died on the cross for our sins; and rose again from the dead on Easter.

Jesus died to lay claim to our lives. His death signs the deed that declares we are His. We accept His claim to us when we recognize Him as Savior.

We can celebrate Easter because it represents a day that celebrates an act which brought about our freedom. A rescue that happens the moment we accept Jesus as our Savior; and carries on with us, with Him, into our eternity. Jesus died for our now and our then.

Let’s not miss the real hero of Easter. Or a chance to accept the greatest gift ever given; a gift Jesus paid for with His life. And He lives now, waiting to be our Savior.

© A. Now all I want to know is what they think reality is?

What we live is supposed to be reality, certainty. The news I hear on the TV of late leaves me wondering what reality the people involved in these stories were living when they carried out their awful plans.

Tell me that the days of leaving your home to run errands, go to school and church; and then return home without being killed or wounded by a crazed gunman aren’t gone. Daily it seems somewhere, someone is being shot; in many cases killed.

Where are the days when a human life meant something? I guess it’s hard to expect society will just “get that” since everywhere you turn there seems to be de-valuation. From the stock market to the housing market, this short list goes to show me we as a world…are out of control.

Possibly these people could have been aided by the connection of human contact, not to mention what a little heavenly contact may have yielded. It’s too late in many of these cases…to ask. Or find out just what was going on with them.

Maybe what the gunman could have benefited from was a distraction from themselves. They weren’t thinking about others when they caused the ending of lives, calamity and misery, pain and loss; to those wounded—and to the families and friends of those who were killed.

Perhaps they were thinking of others and that the pain they could cause someone else, might ease the pain that they themselves felt. No, that can’t be it; that would make them a madman.

It’s obvious that something was going on inside of these people. I don’t want to venture what that would have been. Only to pray that what ever it was, God is on top of the situation; and that what has happened WILL NEVER happen again.

There has to be a call to civility and decency—beyond politeness and courtesy.
In my opinion—a call to God.

We as a society need to get real. Let’s leave the raw behind. It’s time to return to respect—beyond giving props and shout outs.

It’s time to recognize the value of life. That it’s a gift from God; not made by us. But, that can be easily ended by us.

© A. Every year, in January, someone asks me that question. No one asks me that during the year. I wonder why?

This year, like all years will be filled with choices. All roads are not equal, and all solutions effective. Our right to choose is a gift; it can also be a burden if we can’t get to a place where we can make the right decision or change we need.

With the New Year upon us, I could talk about resolutions. But the fact is that we can choose everyday to make changes in our lives. We don’t need to wait for a once a year holiday.

I don’t know what road you’re on. I hope the road you are on will get you to where you want to be, and where you need to be. Where we need to be and where we are aren’t always the same, neither are the means to getting to them.

I know that Jesus is God’s Son. His plan to save us was carried out; we are not waiting for it to come. Accepting His plan of action is as easy as seeing that He is the Savior of the world, who died on the cross for our sins. When you accept this, this short exit from your road, becomes the course of travel for your life here and beyond.

All roads don’t lead to the cross. Many of us have numerous options where that will be. Sadly…some have little or none. Others have not only little or no food to eat; they have no place to call home.

Christians have something, someone to go home to. God awaits those who have chosen an “afterlife” in Him. Those who have opted to turn from the rhetoric and false beliefs of this world—that lead to nowhere; for a chance that leads to eternity.

If you’re looking for a Savior, One who can secure your future life, and guide you into better choices while you’re here; it’s time you look to the person of Jesus Christ. A man who was uniquely human, but fully, God. A man who can help you in whatever you’re lacking and needing. Providing for you a purpose for living, through His dying…on the cross for your sins.

Some say that “Happiness is the gift that keeps on giving.” If that’s true, then salvation is the gift we should long to get, and to give. Salvation is the free gift of eternal life. Let’s keep giving it away during the holiday times and always.

Needs don’t take a holiday. Either does God, I am glad to say! I hope we will
reach out everyday to those who for whatever reason find themselves on the other side of plenty. But not beyond the reach of a God who can supply them with “more than enough.” God is always there. He is someone to go home to.

© A. The only views from there are up and down, and over if you can cross. I guess you can always decide to turn back.

Some roads we choose in our lives leave us no choice but to go forward, because going back for what ever reason is not an option. If you’re facing the edge right now, I hope you won’t choose to go over; but, prepare to cross over.

How we cross the edges in our lives, is entirely our choice. But I am very interested in how God will always get me across; no matter how steep the drop or how broad the gap.

The way to cross over any edge is by the means of faith. Just hoping seems to only work on TV. Hope is fleeting, but faith is rooted. It’s taken hold in something deep. Deeper than just wishing “it was all over,” or clicking your heels together to see if that will get you to the other side. Faith is fixed in the One God who can get us over.

I like to cross edges. Because I trust, have faith, in the One God and His Son, Jesus, as my Savior. I know where ever I land it will be in His hands. I also enjoy crossing edges because I anxiously wait to see what is on the other side. I’m just not the turning back sort of person.

The great thing about putting our trust, faith, in God is that it’s open to anyone that believes in God, and that His Son, Jesus, died on the cross for their sins. Believing in Him isn’t easy for some. Doubting His existence and blaming Him for our problems doesn’t help us to gain trust in Him; but fuels the doubt that feeds our desire to “do it our way.” God never said you couldn’t do it your way; He would just like to help you, as you go along—on your way.

Crossing over isn’t always a journey, when you reach the edge you can fall in. How close are you to the edge? I hope it’s not to fall in but to hold on by the means of faith. To make it across and go…beyond.

Faith in ourselves gets us as far as we can carry ourselves. Faith in God gets us the farthest because He can carry is all the way; by His might and power, and by the means of faith. Not placed in ourselves but well placed in Him. The One who can not only get us across, but who can rescue us from the edge.

© A. I usually don’t take time to read story emails, but this one really caught my eye.

In the email a cartoon character labors to carry a large, heavy, wooden cross. He repeatedly asks God to make his burden of carrying the cross lighter, by reducing the length of his cross. When he reaches his destination, he finds that his cross is too short to be used to make a bridge over a canyon that he has to go across.

I had wondered how many times I have complained when I thought a burden was too heavy. I need to remember daily, that any “weight” I have to bear will be lifted up by God, when I give it over to Him. He can’t lift it if I keep it to myself.

Situations based on my perception, have little to do with God’s view of things. What He thinks and wants matters most, and situations, He can change those in an instant. I have “gone through things” I thought were going to be some of the greatest challenges in my life. Only to see while I was going through them, the end was not only closer than it appeared; the “thing,” like a lion that had teeth, had a bite that was unable to touch me.

That’s the God I choose to place my trust and faith in. A God, who can not only tear the teeth from a lion and untangle any mess, can make sure that any lions that have teeth—can bring me no harm.

Viewing life in God’s perspective means that I am going to have to remember that wherever I am and whatever I am going through, He will be there to help. The outcome may not be as I want, but, I have to trust He is in control and that He will provide everything that I need…no matter the situation.

I hope you will choose to trust God with all you can see, and, with all that you can’t. We can choose to worry and doubt, or we can determine we will have faith in Him; and His ability to be OUR God.

The cross was never too short to do the job it had to do. And that was to hold up the One, Jesus, who would lift up our sins to God so they could be covered by His forgiveness.

Forgiveness that is available to all whenever we ask. For the salvation of our lives, and for our sins—day by day.

How about you? How are you making it day by day??

© A. It’s already there, subtly or not. But, when it flashes across every channel’s nightly news, focusing not on the cruel acts of one person, but on their race; it reminds me how far we haven’t come, in bringing people together who look different than ourselves.

The word race in itself isn’t “ugly.” It’s how some people choose to use it that is. The way I look at it, we basically all came into this world the same way, what we need to be concerned with is our “going out.”

We need to recognize the sanctity, the miracle that life exists and God choose to give it to us. He also chooses to give to us eternal life. A life where we will live forever with Him, with people from all over the world—that look differently than we do.

The phrase “why can’t we all just get along?” is a great motto for today. We have to stop treating each other like enemies; and more like the incredible, awe-inspiring, uniquely fashioned, but equally created human beings; that God breathed life into. And that He can bring together; and use to fulfill His plan here on earth.

I am living my life regardless of the shade God decided to color me. And I focus on The Savior with the colorless face and the all accepting heart. Open to rescue anyone who will call upon His Name.

Now that you’re here…where are you going when you leave?

© A. Bent on releasing his pain? Or, eliciting on others the pain he felt in his mind and body; and tortured spirit.

This decision by one was not on behalf of any race. Or group. It was a choice he alone made, and that history will mark as his most heinous and horrific act—the thing in his life that he will be known forever for.

Many have the mentality that we are a “village of one.” But, sometimes the people in town go off on their own. In this instance, his poor choice didn’t end in a parking ticket or a night in jail.

He chose to write how he would live—and to “stage” how he would die. It’s more courageous to live, no matter how painful; then to face an uncertain eternity that may mirror His life.

Jesus, God’s Son, made a decision of One; that can save the lives of many. He made the choice to die on the cross for our sins. We can know Him personally, we can know Him as our Savior. The decision is ours. All we have to do is ask Him to save us.

The questions surrounding this terrible day will continue. I hope we can say so will our prayers. Including prayers for the family of the young man, who not only took his own life, but, the lives of others. Something we will never understand. Something that only God and time can help us with.

©A. It's been good but, a bit crazy. So, I haven't had the time. But, I have been thinking about all of you.

One of the kids at church on Sunday gave me a prayer request written on a piece of paper. It said: "I wish that God and Jesus have a Happy Valintines Day." Dispite the mispelling of Valentine's, it was on "pink paper." Yeah, this was one of those "Ah..." moments.

It's a shame that all those "gushy, ah moments" can only come one time a year on Valentine's Day. Of course, that is what it seems the advertisers want you to think. That love is acceptable only on "this day." And lust and sex is for all the other days of the year.

Why can't people see the difference between these things and that sex should be with the one that you love. Not "those" whom you "lust."

God is and always will be about love. What other person has expressed love to us so completely? What other person has sacrificed so much for us...except Jesus? His life was about love and His death put that love into action.

Accept Jesus as your Savior today. Let everyday be a love day between you and God. Ask Him to save you. Ask Him to forgive you. Ask Him to love you.

When you do, He will love you today and tomorrow and...forever.

What is our faith worth?

Happy New Year!

Being the news hound that I am, I have of course being checking the internet since I have been back at work, seeing the "new" headlines for 2007. Some are old and many are new. I am prayerfully anticipating all that will happen in 2007. I pray you are as well.

Something that jumped off the page this morning was President Ford's funneral, and a erry headline that seemed to be an ironic duel of good vs. evil--"Getting Over Saddam."

Then I saw another "headline" that an upscale hotel would offer "dog massages." Ok. I was thinking: "Will this year be a year of substance or frivolity?" If I had a dog I would think they would get enough stimulation from wagging their tail and being pet, not to mention their daily trips to the yard.

What is worse the fact they offer dog massages and we are making it a headline, or that someone would actually pay for one for their dog? Will this be the year of the dog? I will be checking the newsmagazines, they are always good at "telling us what we are thinking."

Another headline was the debate on whether President Gerald Ford was "the other born again President?" And "how He kept his faith private."

If President Ford was a Christian, and he was able to look down from his vantage point of heaven, I am sure he would be quick to tell us: "There is a God, and His Son is Jesus. Share your faith, that others may know and accept Him as Savior."

If we live our lives with God not only in mind, but Him being the focus of how we live and in the decisions we make--when we are no longer here, no one will have to ask any questions. Others will not only know how we lived our lives, but, who we lived for.

What is our faith worth if we are not willing to tell anyone? Let's not make this a year of missed opportunitys. Let's share our faith openly.

One of the jobs of our President is to uphold the constitution. That guarantees our freedom of speech and religion. Let's not de-value the incredible freedoms we have in this country, by allowing others to influence our right to share our Christian faith openly. We all have the right to an opinion. And we are free to believe in what we choose.

If what we believe is worth that much to us--who can stop us from sharing it? Only ourselves.

Have a blessed New Year! I will be praying for you!

SHL
Are you committed to compromise?

I picked up an email from a friend named Darold in South Carolina today. He was commenting on my recent book about holiness. He came up with an acroynm of sorts in relation to holiness.

Some of the words Darold used were..."complacent...carnal...Christians...continually under...compromise." It started me to think about Joshua 9:14 in the Bible. ..."The Israelite men "partook" of the food [of the spies] and did not consult the Lord."

If we are complacent and carnal, yes, we are sure to sin. But, being complacent goes beyond being satisfied with what you have and failing to act. It's being selfish, self-righteous, arrogant and prideful. It is placing ourselves above God's standard for us.

God's standard for us IS NOT perfection. That is for heaven. God wants us to make the decision daily that we are going to live differently. Live everyday to please Him and not ourselves. Because when we live to please Him, we find His joy. Not in the rigidity of a prison. Not being a prisoner to Him or a slave. He wants us to freely give ourselves to Him through our obedience.

His standard is for us to seek to live a life that is a reflection of Him and all His goodness and yes, grace. His grace to us, freely given to us, through His Son, Jesus' death on the cross.

Living a complacent life is a life committed to compromise. If your not a Christian and you don't want to be, that's great. At least you know how you feel and you are letting others know it.

But, if you are a Chrisitian and you have allowed compromise to rear it's head in your life through being complacent...your sinning.

It's time to make a choice. If you say your a Christian and your love God, you need to start showing it. God says you can't serve two masters. When you are complacent you are serving yourself. And if you would stop and "consult" with God about this...He would tell you exactly what He thinks about it.

When you seek to be filled with God, and controlled by His Spirit, you care about what He thinks. That means you spend time with Him to actually find out how He feels.

Spending time with God will let you know how He feels. It is what we do with what He wants that makes the difference.

A commitment to self will strengthen our relationship with this world and yes, ourselves. A full commitment to Him, God, means no compromise. But a pledge of loyalty to Him with our lives, and not just our words.

A. He is not only “the man with the ultimate plan;” His arms are never too short to reach us, and His power never to ineffective or weak to help. Not just to help, but, to totally deliver us from any and all situations.

Through the adversity of war, economic hardship and the calamity and nonsensical violence and hatred (sin) of this world; God remains the Bible says our “stay and prop” that is the rock on which we cling to and the pole (support) that keeps us upright.

We are on His list. Is He on ours? Let’s not just make time for God when “tragedy and misfortune visit us.” Let’s take time to visit with Him daily.

We will tell Him what is on our minds.
